July 8

Dear Colleagues,

 

We resumed negotiations with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) on July 8. During the session the teams focused on non-economic topics and were able to reach 11 new tentative agreements.

  • Article 2 – Bargaining Unit Integrity
  • Article 3 – Union Security
  • Article 5 – New Employee Orientation
  • Article 6 – Union Leave
  • Article 13 – Savings/Severability
  • Article 14 – Change of Ownership
  • Article 15 – Seniority
  • Article 23 – Leave of Absence
  • Article 24 – Technology
  • Article 25 – Professional Performance Committee
  • Article 30 – Meal and Rest Periods

 

Our team also provided CHEU with proposals on 8 additional topics, and we look forward to having further discussions on these items at our future sessions.

 

In addition, CHEU agreed to another one-month extension, which means the current contract will now not expire until August 16, 2026. Our next session is scheduled for July 23, and we are in the process of scheduling additional sessions in August.

June 26 Update

Dear Colleagues,

We resumed negotiations with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) on June 25. During the session, both teams exchanged multiple proposals and counterproposals and reached a new tentative agreement.

June 11 Update

Dear Colleagues,

On June 11, we resumed negotiations with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) and continued to make progress toward a new contract. The parties exchanged several proposals and reached one additional tentative agreement (TA), bringing the total TAs reached to four:

June 4 Update

Dear Colleagues,

We resumed negotiations with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) on June 4 and are pleased to share that the teams continued their positive momentum. Also, the parties have mutually agreed to extend the current contract through July 16, 2026, and have scheduled additional bargaining dates for June 25, July 8, and July 23.

May 21 Update

On May 21, we resumed negotiations with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU). During the session the union presented three proposals:

Our team is reviewing these proposals and will begin providing substantive responses and/or counter proposals at our next session on June 4.

May 8 Update

Dear Colleagues,

On May 8, we began formal contract talks with the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) – the first step toward the goal of reaching an agreement on a new contract.

During initial negotiations, the bargaining teams met, agreed to ground rules for the negotiations process, and engaged in respectful and collaborative discussions. The union presented the following economic and non-economic proposals:

– Article 1 – Recognition

– Article 7 – Employment Categories

– Article 12 – Grievance Procedure

– Article 16 – Filling of Vacancies

– Article 17 – Probationary Period

– Article 18 – Floating

– Article 19 – Bereavement

– Article 21 – Hours of Work

– Article 27 – Stand-By Pay

The bargaining teams also expressed their mutual goal of working together collaboratively to reach a fair and reasonable contract in an efficient manner.

April 29 Update

Dear Colleagues,

On May 8, USC Arcadia Hospital and the Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union (CHEU) will begin negotiations on a new contract. We look forward to a productive dialogue with CHEU, and your peer representatives, to reach an agreement that:

– provides for you, our valued caregivers,

– supports you and your profession; and

– promotes our ability to deliver high-quality, compassionate patient care to our community.
